Ghana Black Stars midfielder, Afriyie Acquah, was on target as his side, Empoli, defeated Sassuolo by an emphatic 3-0 on Sunday, February 17 at the Carlo Castellani.
Acquah’s compatriot, Alfred Duncan also featured for Sassuolo in the game which saw both of them both starting for their respective clubs in match day 24 of the Italian Serie A.
Midfielder Rade Krunic broke the deadlock in the 34th minute and the 27-year -old Ghanaian box-to-box midfielder doubled the lead for the blues in the 37th minute through a left footed shot from the centre of the box to the bottom left corner assisted by teammate Diego Farias whose goal at the hour mark secured all three points for the Empoli.
The goal by Acquah was his second in 19 matches for the Italian side in the 2018/2019 season. Acquah later made way for Matteo Brighi in the 79th minute while Mehdi Bourabia replaced Duncan in the 46th minute for Sassuolo.
The former Torino midfielder would be expected to carry his fine form into his side’s next away game against AC Milan at the San Siro Stadium on Friday February 22.
