A three-nation veterans table tennis tournament will take place at  the D.G. Hathiramani Sports Hall in Accra on Saturday.

The tournament will see veteran players from Togo, Benin and host Ghana, competing against each other.

The event, a  competition for veterans in the sport will witness participants aged  45 and above taking part.

The one-day event is an initiative of the Veteran Table Tennis Association of Ghana (VTTAG) with the aim of fostering a cordial relationship and friendliness among former players in the sub-region.

The secretary of the association, Mr Justice Ninson, in an interview with the Daily Graphic, said the motive behind the tournament was to establish a strong bond among past players of the game and also serve as an avenue to share fond memories of the past.

It is also a way to preach to Ghanaians about the importance of keeping fit through regular exercises and the risk one could be exposed to without it.

Mr Ninson said the tournament was also to generate interest in the youth for table tennis and to popularise the sport in Ghana.

The tournament will feature some of Ghana's former stars such as Robert Hammond, Jason Onyameh and Christopher King president of the VTTAG.

The rest are  Samuel Ashitey Armah, Joseph Osei and Richard Laryea.
