Both the men and women teams of Immigration service emerged winners of the season four Stanbic Bank National Table Tennis league held at the D.G Hathiramani Sports Hall of the Accra Sports Stadium last Saturday.
While the male team amassed 51 points after playing 17 matches to win the eight-week competition, the female won all nine matches, as they recorded 27 points to win the trophy at stake.
Ashanti Region’s Pride, Otumfuo Stars, came second with 47 points, Police 47 points and Army 43 points coming 3rd and 4th respectively, leaving Cape Coast Loopers to languish at the bottom of the table with only 6 pointts.
In his remarks, the National Table Tennis Coach, Anthony Owusu Ansah, expressed satisfaction about the performance of the players during the table tennis season.
“This is the best season since we started, standards have improved and players were discipline and very competitive. Last season we had 16 teams participating, but this season, we have 18. It showed that table tennis is gradually getting the recognition it deserves,” he said.
According to the organisers, a single championship event would be held later in the year where awards would be given to deserving teams and individuals who performed exceptionally well throughout the season.
Results of the day
In the last matches, Asoba Foundation lost 2-3 to Eastern Loopers, Ashaiman Stars beat Cape Coast Loopers 3-0, with Divine Travel and Tours (DTT) going down 0-3 to Prisons 0-3.
Faith Table Tennis Club also won 3-0 against Madina Stars, with Immigration defeating Kings Royal Acadamy ( KRA) 3-2 while Fire lost 1-3 to Army with Police beating Vilcabamba 3-1
Western Table Tennis Club (WTTC) also lost 2-3 to Tiger Sharks, while Otumfuo Stars won 3-1 against Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA).
In the second event, Army defeated Otumfuo 3-2, Police won 3-0 against KRA, Immigration triumph against Fire 3-0, Tiger sharks lost to Vilcabanba 0-3, WTTC lost 2-3 to Ashaiman Stars, Asoba Foundations won 3-1 against Prisons. Cape Loopers lost 0-3 to Madina Stars, DTT beat FTTC 3-2.
In the women competition, Eastern Loopers won 3-1 against Vilcabanba, Prisons lost 1-3 to Madina Stars, WTTC beat Otumfuo Stars 3-0, GRA lost 2-3 to Police, and Immigration outclassed Army 3-2.
The Second Match
Cape Loopers lost 0-3 to DTT, Asoba Foundation won 3-1 against FTTC, WTTC beat Madina Stars 3-1, GRA beat Prisons 3-2, Immigration outclassed Police 3-1, Fire lost to Otumfuo Stars 3-1, KRA beat Tiger Sharks 3-0, Vilcabanba won 3-1 against Ashaiman Stars.
In the women Competition, Prisons lost 0-3 to Eastern Loopers, Army outclass Otumfuo 3-0, GRA won 3-0 against Madina Stars, Western beaten by Vilcabamba 1-3, and Immigration beat Police 3-1.
