Abrefa wins Westchester 2500 Table Tennis Open

National top seed Derek Abrefa continues to shine in his ping-pong tour of the United States grabbing gold in the Westchester Under-2500 ratings.

The table tennis star last weekend won the Westchester Open tournament 2500 ratings held in Westchester, Pleasantville at New York in the United States.

The International Table Tennis Federation(ITTF) ratings competition is a tournament which is held in the US and attracts ping pong players from all over the world.

Abrefa, 27, defeated some of the top ping pong players in the US on his way to winning the trophy and an undisclosed amount of money.
The Ghanaian who has been on a training touring the United States since last year also came eighth in the Westchester January Open tournament after losing to Chinese Jian Li.

'I thank God for winning the Westchester Table Tennis Opens this weekend. It was very tough for me during the start of the tournament. The style of play and level of play was so different and I am happy I finally made my way through to win the ultimate prize,’ he told the GraphicSports Online in an interview from his US base.

He expressed profound gratitude to Stanbic Bank Moneywallet for sponsoring his training tour and the Westchester Table Tennis Centre for hosting him and providing him with the equipment to ply his trade.

”This training tour will help me improve and also prepare me for the 2023 African games which Ghana will be hosting. It's a preparation toward this year's world table tennis championship which will take place in South Korea ,” he stated.

He also thanked the Ghana Immigration Service(GIS) and the Ghana Table Tennis Association(GTTA), as well as his fans for their support in his ping pong endeavours.
