Asamoah Gyan signs for Indian side, NorthEast United FC

Indian Premier League club, NorthEast United FC, have announced the capture of Black Stars general captain, Asamoah Gyan.

Details of the terms of the contract were not made available  but the Asian side broke the news on their twitter handle when they tweeted that "Airline Baby Jet Next destination North East, Welcome to Sarusajai @ Asamoah Gyan3".

An accompanying video on the handle said, "We have a star coming your way, former captain of Ghana, most capped Ghanaian player,highest goal scorer for Ghana, AFC Champions League top scorer 2014, BBC Africa Footballer of the Year 2010, CAF Team of the Year 2010, 2013, 2014" and ended by welcoming Gyan to the club.

Asamoah is considered as the biggest name to arrive ahead of the Hero Indian Super League (Hero ISL) 2019-20 season.

The 33-year-old would be joining the Indian side with a depth of experience having played for several clubs including Udinese, Rennes, Sunderland, Al Ain, Shanghai SIPG, Al Ahli Dubai and Kayserispor in Turkey.

The all-time highest goal scorer of the Black Stars, Gyan has featured in three editions of  the FIFA World Cup (2006, 2010, 2014) and he is the current leading goal scorer on the Africa continent in the history of FIFA World Cup, with six goals.

The executive director of NorthEast United, Priya Runchal, who spoke at the signing ceremony was excited they had captured the Ghanaian goal poacher and was hopeful his experience would be seen on the pitch as they expect to see him add a lot of firepower on the pitch.

“We are thrilled to have a player of Gyan’s calibre and experience join our squad. He has continuously delivered excellence at the highest of levels of world football and we are confident that he will add a lot of firepower on the pitch here,” he stated.

Gyan also expressed his delight to continue his career with the Indian club and added that based on the great stories he had heard about the Indian league and was confident he was coming to help improve on the club’s previous performance in the league.

“I am extremely excited to start this new chapter in my career. I have heard great things about NorthEast United FC and the Indian Super League and I am thrilled to be a part of it for the upcoming season. I am confident that we can better the wonderful season the club had last year," Gyan said.
