The head coach of Kumasi Asante Kotoko, Charles Kwablan Akonnor has revealed that the club will recruit more talents to beef up the squad and to boost their chances of winning a continental trophy this year.

So far, Kotoko have been impressive in the Total CAF Confederation Cup recording back-to-back victories against Cameroun’s Coton Sport to reach the group stage of the competition on a 5-3 aggregate for the first time in a decade.

The Porcupine Warriors earlier defeated the Kariobangi Sharks of Kenya 2-1 in Kumasi after managing a goalless draw in the first leg match in Nairobi last month.

In an interview on Monday, the experienced coach noted that he was yearning for more successes in the continental competition and wished to beef up the squad to make their dream a reality.

“We are not still up to the level I want but gradually we will be there. Beefing up the squad to achieve our aim has been discussed and it was internal,” he said.

Kotoko were on Monday drawn in Group C against Al Hilal of the Sudan, and the Zambian duo of Zesco United and Nkana FC. They begin their group campaign with an away clash with Al Hilal on February 3 in Omdurman.

On February 13, the Porcupine Warriors will play host to Zesco United at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi before flying out to Kitwe to play Nkana FC at the Nkana Sports Stadium in Zambia on February 24.
