The two-day fair, which ended on Sunday was dubbed: “Oxford Street International Fair.” It was organised by Street Fair International (SFI) in collaboration with the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts and the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA).
It brought together over 300 businesses, including retail and corporate institutions and players in the arts, fashion, home decor, as well as vending enterprises that deal in unique products.
The fair also had a lot of corporate souvenirs, artworks and artefacts, clothing and accessories, electronics, cosmetics, automobiles, foods and beverages and published educational materials, among others.
Cultural troupes were on hand to showcase the country’s cultural diversity.
The fair was highly patronised, especially on Saturday when it was officially opened.
Hundreds of shoppers, majority being women and children, were busily glancing through the array of products displayed.
Prices of products were slashed to make it possible for patrons to afford them.
Some of the patrons who spoke to the Daily Graphic were excited and commended the organisers of the fair.
Mrs Rebecca Ansah, a participant, stated: “I brought my two children and husband here to have fun. As you can see, we also bought items which were affordable.”
Promoting local products
The Project Director of SFI, Mrs Catherine Morton, said the fair was organised to promote made-in-Ghana products.
According to her, it offered an avenue for Ghanaian businesses to increase their turnover because during Christmas, there were a lot of shopping and retail activities but most of the time, the food consumed were not Ghanaian.
She described the fair as very successful, adding that it would be organised annually to promote made-in-Ghana products.
