AABN starts campaign to inspire job creation

A nationwide campaign is currently underway to encourage students in Technical Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institutions in the country to start their own enterprises.

The campaign seeks to inspire more students to use skills acquired in school to establish firms that can create jobs for other youths in an effort to support the government’s agenda of reducing the high unemployment rate in the country.

Spearheaded by the African Aurora Business Network (AABN) Foundation, one million copies of a new book on entrepreneurship will be distributed to students in TVET institutions across the country.

The book, 12 Golden Secrets for Entrepreneurs: Keys to business wisdom and wealth, is written by the Executive Director of AABN, Mrs Maureen Odoi.

Presentation

Presenting copies of the book to students of DTI Community Innovation Business Community at a business pitch competition on May 14 in Accra, Mrs Odoi stated that AABN was committed to support the government to reduce the high unemployment rate in the country.

“An increasing number of unemployed graduates are pouring out of tertiary institutions every year. The main goal of most young people in the country and the West Africa sub-region in general is to have a white-collar job.

“However, in a continent with such a high unemployment rate, it becomes frustrating when the harsh reality of non-existent jobs sets in. In the few instances where the path of entrepreneurship is pursued, fatal avoidable mistakes are continually made due to the lack of relevant information on entrepreneurship,” she said.

The book

The Executive Director stated that this book provides 12 golden secrets of business wisdom and wealth, which were the essential characteristics for successful entrepreneurship.

She said each characteristic was thoroughly examined with the real-life experiences of successful entrepreneurs who defied all odds to thrive.

“The author further leaves readers with indispensable golden nuggets to adopt on their entrepreneurial journey.”

The book is a 12-chapter business focused manual which navigates readers on ways to innovate and attract private and public capital.

Other chapters include secrets to set goals, plan systematically and monitor results, seek opportunities and take initiative among others.

Entrepreneurship journey

This well-resourced book shares rich experience, relevant and practical insights into the entrepreneurship journey and outlines the keys to business wisdom and wealth.

The “12 Golden Secrets for Entrepreneurs” written with a purpose to propel the African youth to greatness, makes the entrepreneurial journey less daunting by offering some practical tips.

The book serves as a useful guide for entrepreneurs who desire to tap into the diverse opportunities under the African Continental Free Trade Area (ACFTA) agreement to accelerate intra- African trade and boost Africa’s position in the global market.

The competition

Touching on the pitch competition, Mrs Odoi urged participants to brace the changing demands of consumers amid the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

She further challenged the prospective winner of the pitch contest to complement their efforts by applying nuggets from the book.
