FanChoco presents 100 dustbins to aid waste segregation in schools
FanChoco has presented 100 dustbins for distribution in a number of basic schools in Accra and Kumasi to aid better waste management and to help keep the environment clean.
The 100 dustbins which are for the collection of plastics only, are for distribution to schools that participated in the FanChoco School Caravan, launched by Fan Milk Ghana Limited, which aims at encouraging waste segregation and better waste management through recycling.

Brand Manager at Fan Milk Ghana Ltd, Frances-Nadhia Aryee who led a team of company officials to present the bins to officials of the Ghana Education Service at the La Wireless cluster of schools in the La Dade-Kotopon municipality near Accra, explained that all the bins had been labeled ‘plastic’ to remind the school pupils what type of waste must go in.
The FanChoco School Caravan is a consumer engagement programme in primary schools initiated in September 2018, in partnership with the Ghana Education Service (GES), which sought to educate children and parents on good nutrition, the importance of physical activity and sensitize them about the importance of sanitation.
Frances-Nadhia Aryee said the presentation of the bins to schools in Accra and Kumasi marked the climax of activities in the first phase of the FanChoco School Caravan, and that the second phase which is already underway, will seek to reach more school children, teaching them about sanitation and ensure they grow up into responsible adults, well-grounded on how to manage waste.
The National Coordinator of the School Health Education Programme (SHEP) of the GES, Mrs Nana Esi Inkoom, who expressed gratitude to FanChoco and its mother company, Fan Milk Ghana for the donation, said the programme was a laudable one as it helps to inculcate a critical moral lesson and discipline in the school children.
She said waste segregation and proper disposal of waste are critical lifelong behaviours every Ghanaian needs to nurture, and it was encouraging that young people were brought on board.
“They used the FanChoco programme where the school children snack properly, eating the FanChoco, they don’t litter but put the wrappers in a bin and it’s a very laudable programme and we are very grateful to FanChoco for this presentation because once the school children learn about putting refuse inside the bin, they will practice it in school and when they go home, they will also develop the habit of putting refuse into bins. They will practice the same thing in the house, it becomes a habit they have learnt, they will correct their siblings and when they go out into the community, they will practice it and help us all have a cleaner environment and nation”, she said.
Alhaji Gamel Ligbi, headmaster of the La Wireless 5 Primary and JHS who received the donation on behalf of the beneficiary schools, also expressed gratitude to FanChoco.
The La Dade-Kotopon Municipal Director of Education, Mr. Isaac MacCarthy-Mensah, appealed to Fan Milk and FanChoco to extend the School Caravan programme to as many schools as possible, saying the fight to ensure a clean environment must cover all and sundry.
