Becca, Ebony, Sarkodie others nominated for AFRIMAs

BECCA, Fuse ODG, Sarkodie, Shatta Wale and Ebony are among a number Ghanaian acts who have been nominated for this year’s edition of the All Africa Music Awards (AFRIMA).

The full list of nominees which was released on Thursday, August 17 also included Hiplife duo R2Bees, Dark Suburb, Wiyaala, Khalisax and Jah Phinga.

Germany based Ghanaian electric bass player, Harold Haity, is set to introduce himself and his music style to Ghanaian music lovers when he mounts the stage at the +233 Jazz Bar and Grill in Accra come Saturday, August 26.

Haity plays smooth jazz with influences from a variety of sources including West African and European melodies laced with Afro Latin rhythms and R& B.

Live FM celebrates GH musicians monthly

Live Artiste of the Month which is an extension of an already existing show called GH Wednesday Live will see a number of artistes battle through series of tasks to emerge a monthly champion.

Telecommunications giant MTN have announced the selection of 24 hopefuls out of tens of thousands of contestants who submitted their demos for the MTN Hitmaker 6 music reality show.

Singer, Wiyaala,  has dropped the visuals for Village Sex, the first single from her forthcoming album.

Village Sex is an adaption of a traditional wedding song from Wiyaala’s village in the Upper West Region. It tells of a young bridegroom  being teased by the women because he only thinks of consummating the  marriage on the wedding night. The  song is meant to encourage young bachelors to marry before they have sex as tradition demands.

TLS out with Stop Galamsey

The illegal mining menace and its resultant problems such as the destruction of the environment, loss of lives among others is what has motivated a group of individual artistes to come together under the name Top Level Squad (TLS), to release a single titled Stop Galamsey.

The artistes, seven in number, are Ras MK, Ayisi, K.Rock, Yhorb Khid, Linking, Moni Kaline and Roizy. In an interview with Showbiz, a member of the group, Ayisi, said members of the group decided to release their single in order to add their voice to the effort at ending the Galamsey problem.

Atambire holds free concert at Abajo

Stevo  Atambire, the kologo/calabash player and singer from Bolgatanga in the Upper East Region, will launch his latest album, ‘Teach Me,’  with a  free concert on Saturday, August  5 at the Abajo Culture and Art Café within the Accra Arts Centre. 

The 19-track collection was recorded in Accra and produced by Wanlov The Kubolor and Percy Yip Tong from Mauritius, a project they describe as a “ a unique West and East African collaboration from the Atlantic to the Indian Ocean.”
