St Augustine Anglican Basic School needs classroom facilities
The St Augustine Anglican Basic School at Nungua in Accra is facing infrastructural challenges due to the non-completion of a 12-unit one-storey classroom block to accommodate the pupils.
The old classrooms were pulled down for the commencement of work on the new classroom block for the school, which started in 2016 with funds from the Krowor Municipal Assembly (KroMA), formerly known as the Ledzokuku Krowor Municipal Assembly.

The project was scheduled to be completed in 2017 but work had come to a standstill due to lack of funds.
To find a temporary solution to the problem, the school’s authorities have erected canopies at a section of the St Augustine Anglican Church, also under construction, to cater for pupils at the primary section.
The school has also arranged with authorities of the Nungua Presbyterian Junior High School to allow the JHS students to study with them.
KroMA steps in
In an interview with the Municipal Chief Executive of KroMA, Mr Joshua Nii Bortey, during a visit to the school pledged the assembly’s support for the completion of the project and mentioned that the assembly’s intervention was in response to an appeal made by authorities of the school.
The MCE, who led a team of officials to inspect the building, said the assembly would ensure the completion of the project, pointing out that funds would soon be made available to the contractor.
He urged parents, some of who were present during the inspection tour, to give priority to the education of their children and pledged the assembly’s support in ensuring that pupils studied in a conducive environment.
Completion
Touching on the project, the Managing Director of Osae Engineering and Construction Limited, Mr Eric Kwabena Osae, stated that the block was about 65 per cent complete and added that the non-availability of funds had affected the early completion of the project.
The school currently has a total estimated population of about 600 pupils for both the primary and JHS .
During a visit to the school, some of the pupils expressed the hope that the project would be completed early to enable them have a conducive environment for academic work.
