Ms Ofori made these remarks at a grand durbar organised at Akropong, in the Eastern Region, as part of this year’s Akuapem Odwira festival.

She said such occasions always foster peace, unity and development and must always be used as an important forum to remind everyone of the need to keep our environment clean in order to prevent diseases and  promote tourism.

Other speakers at the durbar included President John Mahama; the Okyenhene, Osagyefo Amoatia Ofori Panin II, and the Eastern Regional Minister, Mr Antwi-Bosiako Sekyere.

Ms Ofori beat  nine other contestants a few weeks ago to earn the Miss Tourism Ghana 2014 title. The Miss Tourism Ghana Organisation has launched youth tourist clubs in several schools across the country and Ms Ofori hopes to continue and extend the work of her predecessors in the field of creating awareness of proper sanitation.

Meanwhile, Ms Ofori and the runners-up at the 2014 Miss Tourism contest had paid a courtesy call on H.E. Jon Benjamin, the British High Commissioner in Ghana.

The visit was to officially introduce the three young ladies to the diplomat and also to inform him about their travel plans to London to participate in the World Travel Market scheduled for November 3 to November 6.

The High Commissioner congratulated Ms Ofori and her colleagues on their victory. He urged them to take up their responsibilities as tourism ambassadors seriously in order to project Ghana’s tourism on the world market.

Mrs Delphine Brew-Hammond, Director of Events and Operations for the Miss Tourism Ghana Organisation, thanked the High Commissioner for the Commission’s support for the pageant.

Miss Tourism Ghana is sponsored by Crown Apartamento Hotel, DaViva, Max International, MJ Grand Hotel, Metropolitan Insurance Co., Ltd., Darling Hair, Yoks Car Rental, The Venue Restaurant – East Legon, CAL Bank, Stanbic Bank, Hall of Peter Design House and Sivoderm.
