Graphic Business/Stanbic Breakfast: Reports on event presented to IMANI, ISSER

THE Graphic Communications Group Limited (GCGL) has presented two reports put together from this year’s Graphic Business/Stanbic Bank Breakfast Meetings to two research and advocacy institutions.

They are the Institute for Statistical, Social and Economic Research (ISSER) of the University of Ghana, Legon, and IMANI Africa, a policy think tank.

The reports, developed by the GCGL, feature selected presentations from chairpersons and panel members of the first and the third quarter editions of the thought leadership breakfast meetings meant to influence government policies in favour of businesses.

While the first quarter was one the theme: “Integration of E-service into our economy — Implications for economic growth and quality of life,” the third quarter was on the theme “Living within our Means: Imperative for Economic Success”.

The breakfast meeting, a quarterly dialogue session, is an initiative of the GCGL in collaboration with Stanbic Bank, one of the country’s leading financial institutions.

They brought together players in the private sector, policy makers and people from the government to deliberate on various issues to impact positively on the country’s development.

Presentation

Presenting the reports to ISSER and IMANI Africa at separate ceremonies in Accra, the Director, Marketing at GCGL, Franklin Sowa, said the reports summarised all the key issues that came out of the two quarterly meetings.

He explained that the views of the participants from the meeting were summarised into the reports for easy reference.

That, he said, would help relevant stakeholders, including policy makers, to make an informed decision into the designing of policies that can impact change in society.

“For us, we have always maintained that the Graphic Business/ Stanbic Bank Breakfast Meeting is a platform that goes beyond the usual talk shops. So, we are here to present two reports from this year’s meeting.

“Knowing the role of ISSER and IMANI and the value of conversations you bring to decision making and national development issues, we think these reports will serve you well,” Mr Sowa said.

Key partners

At the presentation to ISSER, the acting Editor of the Graphic Business, Charles Benoni Okine, noted that the GCGL remained a key partner of ISSER in various areas.

He explained that the media group with its brands had opened its doors to provide a platform for the research institute to use in order to reach its audience.

Mr Okine added that the Graphic Business had created annual competition for students in business tertiary institutions with the aim to develop the minds of business students to build successful business careers in the future.

He, therefore, urged ISSER to use the Graphic Business to disseminate findings from some of its research projects for the benefit of students.

Welcome news

The Director of ISSER, Professor Peter Quartey, stated that the idea to develop the views at the breakfast meeting into a booklet was a welcome news which needed to be commended.

He said policymakers should be able to secure copies of the reports to aid policy generation.

“The breakfast meeting is well received and the quality of the discussions on the platform is commendable.

“I will also urge the GCGL to go a notch higher to prepare a policy brief in addition to the reports and this will go a long way to support national development,” Prof. Quartey said.

Graphic commended

A Vice-President of IMANI Africa, Kofi Bentil, who received the documents on behalf of the policy think tank, commended the GCGL for developing comprehensive reports from the breakfast meeting series

“Meetings of such nature are so useful and provide a master class. These reports will have a useful impact on society. It also extends the usefulness of the breakfast meeting beyond the venue,” he said.

Mr Bentil urged the management of the GCGL to set up a specialised department to develop the reports to inform policy and grow the country.

“We should aim at making the reports something like the Harvard Business Review. So, something like Graphic Business Review will become a go to publication for business people in the country,” he added.
