Tagoe pummels Kamote in Rd 1

Ghanaian boxer, Emmanuel ‘Game Boy’  Tagoe, succeeded in clinching his third straight victory after his famous bout with George Ashie when he knocked out Tanzanian opponent Allan Kamote in the first round of the WBA International Lightweight Championship.

The Tanzanian rarely showed any sign of a serious boxer when he visited the canvass from Tagoe’s left hook moments after the bout had started in the presence of some boxing greats, including Azumah Nelson and Joshua Clottey.

Kamote survived the mandatory count and bounced back but after a few minutes he went down for the second time and South African referee Stan Christodouloo stopped the bout after Tagoe’s hook sent him tumbling on the floor for the third time.

The hard-hitting Tagoe entered the ring wearing a golden crown and a rod with a cake to mark the birthday of his manager, Asamoah Gyan.

Incidentally, Kamote was the same boxer who was stopped by George Ashie a few months back at the same venue and his poor performance infuriated local fans who questioned his pedigree after failing to go beyond three minutes.

But the comedy of exchanges between Braimah Kamoko, aka Bukom Banku and Ayittey Powers, was the biggest attraction on the night as the two boxers were virtually restrained by boxing fans from trading some punches following a heated argument.

“I want the organisers to know that I will fight on condition that the bout would be a winner takes all because I want to revenge and beat Bukom Banku after which I will hand over all the purse to him,” Powers said to the cheers from his fans.

That comment attracted a quick response from Banku who described Powers as a serial loser who had never won any fight as a boxer. At that moment, tempers flared up as the two boxers were ushered out of the ring still engaged in some verbal exchanges.

When they were finally separated, Banku, apparently dissatisfied, continued with his tantrums and rushed to confront Powers again, but they were again restrained from trading punches.
