Senior 15s rugby league launched

The 2013/14 senior 15s rugby league was launched yesterday with the President of the Ghana Rugby Association (GRA), Mrs Gifty Annan Myers, expecting great performance from the 10 teams that will be involved in the competition.

Mrs Myers, who was speaking at the launch of the competition at the Accra Sports Stadium, said “my expectation is that the leegue develops and show us the players that are in good form and athletic enough to play because we will move these players to the national level”.

This year’s edition would  be staged at  venues accross two regions; the Adisadel Park in the Central Region and University of Ghana Rugby Pitch, Legon in the Greater Accra Region.

Sponsors of the tournament, Beaufort Properties Limited, said they decided to sponsor the league because of the passionate fans of the sport in Ghana and were glad that this year’s tournament had seen an increase in the number of teams from four in the previous year to 10.

The first group of matches, which will be played at the Adisadel Park on December 14, includes games between defending champions Cosmos Buffalos RFC versus Mfantsidisc Rugby Club, Accra Sharks against Idas Sports Rugby Club, Dansoman Hurricanes Rugby Club taking on Abura Bombers Rugby Club, Oguaaman Ocean Warriors Rugby Club clashing with Black Panthers Rugby Club and the last game will witness a titanic duel between last year’s losing finalists Legon Titans and AggreyOguaa Rugby Club.
