The future looks bright with Polo — Neil Armstrong

The Managing Director of Accra Hearts of Oak, Neil Armstrong-Mortagbe, has predicted a bright future for the club’s new coach, Mohammed Polo, following his winning start against Ebusua Dwarfs last Sunday.

“I see a bright future for Polo even though he just started work a week ago. I saw signs of his work on the training ground manifesting in our 0-1 victory against Dwarfs,” Amstrong-Mortagbe said in an interaction with the media at the Lizzy Sports Complex.

“He (Polo) is quick and gracious to acknowledge the work that David Duncan did with the team prior to his appointment and as such he will only build on what he sees; where he perceives that there are areas to be strengthened he will strengthen, where we are already strong he will maintain”.

“He has already made some initial assessment of the squad but he has a few days to assess whether there is a need to bring in new players to strengthen the team.

If we agree that there is a need to sign new players we will do so but in my personal view, the long-term injuries to Kenneth Okoro and Obed Ansah and other players with short-term niggles mean that we have to sign new players to strengthen the squad.”

The Hearts MD also refuted allegations that the club only offered the “Dribbling Magician” a short-term contract because they doubted his credentials.

“It is a function of our firm belief in him that led to his appointment, but the timing and circumstances meant that we had to give him a six-month contract at the end of which we could decide whether to have a long-term relationship or vary the terms of our contract”.

He also said that the club was making moves to ensure that the coach acquired a CAF License A certificate in accordance with the league rules.

“My understanding is that, as we speak, majority of the coaches in this league are CAF License B holders like Polo, but I am aware that there would very soon be another CAF License A course at Prampram and he would avail himself to attend and go through to acquire a License A.”
