Medeama boss denies Blay’s $200,000 price tag

The owner and bankroller of Medeama FC, Mr Moses Armah, has furiously rubbished reports that the club had put a $200,000 price tag on their prized midfielder, Justice Blay, to raise funds for its operations.

Media reports in the past week claimed that Medeama had decided to sell Blay but would not let him go for any amount less than $200,000.

But in an interview with Graphic Sports, Mr Armah, aka Mospacka, said the club was ready to sell the player to any club, foreign and local, which would show interest in him but no price tag had been placed on him since no club had approached Medeama yet for Blay.

"Medeama have not put any price tag on Blay. I don't know where that information is coming from because as I speak to you, no club has shown interest in the player, making it quite strange to put a price tag on him for now.”

“Though the club has plans of selling him to any club, foreign or local, the price will be communicated to any serious club that approaches us. As I speak, no club, including Kotoko, has shown interest.”

“The foreign clubs are not showing up because of the imposition of travel restrictions and the sealing of borders in the country and other countries as a result of the coronavirus which has affected player transfers. Blay is a promising player and I believe clubs will come on board for his services soon,” he noted.

Blay returned to Medeama last month after a successful 12 months loan spell with Kotoko. He was brought in to assist Kotoko in their CAF Champions League campaign, and after impressing, they decided to keep him for the 2019/2020 season which was recently cancelled due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The 28-year-old midfielder emerged as Kotoko’s best player in the league, bagging five man-of-the-match awards, with one coming against Hearts of Oak whom he helped Kotoko to beat 2-1 at the Accra Stadium.

Blay also played an integral part in the Black Stars B team that participated in the 2019 WAFU Cup tournament in Senegal but were runners-up to tournament host, Senegal, after losing the final match through a penalty shootout after a 1-1 draw in full time.
