Calm returns to Tamale after NDC youth went on rampage

Calm has returned to some parts of the Tamale Metropolis after some angry supporters of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) vandalised party billboards of President John Mahama and MP for Tamale Central, Alhaji Inusa Fuseini.

The youth who call themselves NDC Youth Network for Peace were angry at the exclusion of Mr Haruna Iddrisu, MP for Tamale South from the list of ministerial nominees.

But Mr Iddrisu in an interview Friday appealed to the group to remain calm and respect the decision of the President.

Rather than engaging in acts of vandalism he urged them to support the President's effort to run an effective government.

Mr Iddrissu, the Caretaker Communications Minister, was speculated to be assigned the newly created Oil and Gas Ministry but the appointment of Mr Emmanuel Armah Kofi Buah to head the Ministry angered the youth who accused the President of succumbing to pressure.

The youth were particularly angered because the announcement of Mr Buah's nomination for the Oil and Gas Ministry came after agitations by some chiefs from the Western Region demanding that an indigene should head that ministry.

Mr Iddrisu described the youth action as regrettable and unfortunate and called on them not to engage in acts that threatened the peace of the region.
