Conserve energy to save money -ECG advises children
The Electricity Company of Ghana has advised children to develop the habit of using energy wisely to conserve power and avoid high expenditure on electricity consumption.

According to the ECG, the prepaid meters were digitalised, and recorded every amount of power used, hence the need to use power wisely.
“If you use many gadgets at the same time, credit on the meter will run out fast so it is important to ensure that you use electricity when it is needed to save your parents from the frequent purchase of power for the prepaid meters at home,” the Public Relations Officer of the Accra West Region of the ECG, Mr William Asante, advised in an interview.
He said the company would continue the sensitisation of customers on the use of prepaid meters to ensure that more people understood how the meters worked so as to help them save money.
Mr Asante said although education was normally done before the installation of prepaid meters in houses in all communities, complaints by members of the public about the meters indicated that a number of people had not fully grasped how the meters worked.
He attributed the current state of affairs to apathy, among other things, on the part of the residents during the education programmes.
Mr Asante pointed out that due to the accuracy of the meters, people tended to assume that it recorded faster than the post-paid meters, where customers paid bills after usage of power.
The ECG PRO said the use of prepaid meters by the household was good because it guided people on the use of energy “due to its efficiency.”
“Since they are digital machines ...they are more accurate than the post-paid meters,” he said, and advised people living in compound houses not to use one meter since their consumption would be high as a result of the various gadgets the other families used.
For instance, he said in a compound house of 15 people, it was prudent to put a group of three people on one meter instead of all the 15 members using one meter.
