Samartex are ready to make impact - Coach Wellington

The head coach of Samartex 1996 FC, Henry Lamptey Wellington, has stated that his side is ready to make a significant impact in the 2022/23 Ghana Premier League season by avoiding relegation.

Coach Wellington told Graphic Sports that his team would not be a walkover in the top flight after their historic qualification to the premiership.

Samartex will play in the Premier League for the first time in their 16-year history, having lost the slot to Bibiani Goldstars in the previous Division One League (DOL) season.

“This is the biggest opportunity for us to showcase the team to the world and we are willing to make it count. It is an honour for me to be part of their first Premier League appearance because they have laboured for it all these years,” said Wellington, a former caretaker coach of Hearts of Oak in 2018.

Based in Samreboi in the Western Region, Samartex 1996 FC dominated Zone Two of the DOL and booked their ticket to the Ghanaian top flight with three matches to spare.

Samartex plans to revamp their squad for the task ahead with some new signings.

When asked whether the club had some specific targets in mind, Coach Wellington said they were still on the market looking for suitable players for the elite league.

“We have so many players we are looking at, but we are hopeful of making signings that will complement the team,” he added.
