Stop exploiting Akufo-Addo’s popularity – Communications Director
The New Patriotic Party’s Communications Director for the Greater Accra Region, Mr Micheal Ampong, has pleaded with the leadership of his party to avoid exploiting Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s sympathy or popularity across the country for their personal or parochial interest.

The leading youth activist of the party explained that anybody aspiring to contest for positions at any level within the party must first come on their personal merit and capabilities and not to hang on the shoulders of a prominent person to achieve that goal.
Mr Ampong, also known as Gyagbele, in an interview on the current state of the NPP, said “at this stage, the NPP needs competence, commitment, true devotion and sheer love and passion to win political power.”
According to the youth activist, the NPP must concentrate effort at restructuring the party before thinking of a presidential candidate.
In his view, results from both the 2008 and 2012 elections had shown that the NPP was losing most otherwise friendly regions and even constituencies.
He mentioned the Central, Western, Brong Ahafo and Greater Accra regions as areas the party was failing to capture.
“What the NPP needs is a strong party machinery which is capable of winning an election,” he added.
Mr Ampong expressed regret that the NDC had shown that they had the kind of party machinery that could win election by fair or foul means.
“Let us be systematic as we prepare for the next general election in 2016, by looking at the basic party structures from polling stations, constituencies, and regions and make sure that their challenges and problems were addressed,” he stated.
He argued, “they must be adequately resourced and motivated in readiness for the next elections.
Mr Ampong also called on the leadership of the party, including the General Secretary, Mr Kwadjo Owusu Afriyie, to be circumspect in all their utterances, particularly to the media to avoid creating cracks and disaffection within the party.
Rather, he said the leadership of the party must endeavour to give confidence to its teeming supporters saying “the NDC may not be doing well in government but they are giving confidence to their youth.
The NPP must re-strategise, if it is to do well in future elections, Mr Ampong advocated, saying “we need a human face strategy that continously gives confidence to the people.
All leading members of the NPP must begin a personal self-assessment and individually answer the pertinent issue of their relationship or ties with people on the ground, the Ghanaian electorate.
