The Member of Parliament for the Akuapem North Constituency and Deputy Information Minister, Nana Ama Dokua Asiamah-Adjei has introduced a Special Awards at the 33rd Farmers Day celebration held at Saforo, a farming community within the Akuapem North Municipality.
The MP's Award is a novelty and is aimed at motivating farmers, especially women into commercial farming.
The announcement of the award package by the MP was greeted with a rousing welcome amidst wild celebrations.
Farmers present at the ceremony joyfully moved from their seats, ecstatically ran to the direction of their MP to thank her on behalf of the award winners for her vision and commitment to seeing to the development and welfare of the farmers in the constituency.
The maiden winners received various prizes, including tricycles, locally called 'aboboyaa.'
The Best Farmer and Best Female Farmer received two tricycles each. Nana Ama Asiamah-Adjei urged the farmers to continue working hard since their profession remained an important aspect in the life of every individual and every facet of human endeavor.
The award winners were grateful to their MP for the initiative and they pledged to work hard and make judicious use of the tricycles they had been given. They also thanked Nana Ama Dokua for his vision and commitment in supporting the development of agriculture and the welfare of farmers in the constituency.
In attendance were Hon. Dan Kweku Botwe; MP for Okere and Minister of Regional Reorganisation & Development, Hon. Dennis Aboagye Edward; MCE for Akuapem North Municipal Assembly, Osabarima Nana Ansah Sasraku III; Chief of Mamfe and Okuapemman Kyidomhene, among other dignitaries.
