Military Hospital appeals for support to establish Orthopaedic centre

The Commander of the 37 Military Hospital in Accra, Brigadier General Michael Akwasi Yeboah Agyapong, has appealed to stakeholders and other corporate bodies to support the hospital to construct an orthopaedic centre.

He said since the hospital was designated as a national disaster centre, various accident victims were brought there for medical care, including those with broken limbs even though the facility lacked a well-equipped orthopaedic centre to attend to the needs of such patients.

Event

The commander, who made the appeal at this year’s annual ball at the hospital, also expressed concerns over inadequate logistics and infrastructure in the facility which he said was putting a strain on the staff.

According to him, event hough the government was doing its best, they needed further support to ensure proper healthcare delivery.

“Funds given to us by the government are not enough; we always have to find means in ensuring that there are drugs and other logistics to support both we the soldiers and the civilians who attend this hospital.” he added.

Annual ball

Staff and their spouses attended the ball that was supposed to have come off in December last year but was postponed due to the celebration of the West Africa Social Security Activity (WASSA) around the same time.

The commander explained that the occasion was held to afford the staff some rest and also enable them to assess their activities in the previous year to chart a new course.

“We normally do this because even in the Bible, God had to rest after the sixth day of creation and I think we as humans, also need sometime to rest”, he added.

Commendation

The Chief of the Naval Staff, Rear Admiral Seth Amoama, commended the officers and men for their efforts and sacrifices over the years which he said had helped in making the hospital a centre of excellence.
