Upgrade of Colleges of Education laudable — Rev. Ayarkwa
The Principal of the Kibi Presbyterian College of Education (KPCE) in the Eastern Region, Reverend Charles Ayarkwa, has commended the government for upgrading colleges of education to tertiary institutions and said the institutions have a responsibility to live up to expectation to justify the laudable decision of the government.
He said the KPCE was poised to put all the necessary policies in place to become one of the fully fledged autonomous institutions within the next four years that the government envisaged for the colleges of education.

Rev. Ayarkwa, therefore, charged the alumni of the school to contribute their quota towards the realisation of the school’s vision by providing advice and resources in the college’s mandate to train students to become responsible teachers for the country.
The principal gave the commendation at the homecoming meeting of the college’s alumni at the campus in Kyebi last Saturday.
Reverend Ayarkwa traced the experiences of the alumni when they were on campus and said those experiences had contributed immensely to shape the character and life of the alumni who were occupying very responsible positions in academia, the judiciary and the legal field, the media, business and industry and other spheres of life.

He said the upgrade of the Colleges of Education to tertiary institutions had brought in its wake stiff competition in admission, adding that the number of admissions had brought a lot of pressure on facilities.
He, therefore, lauded the government for providing the school with a 2000-seating capacity auditorium with an amphitheatre, a 10-unit 13-flat accommodation for both teaching and non-teaching staff and a new female hall to ease the pressure on facilities and to provide a congenial atmosphere for teaching and learning.
Rev. Ayarkwa announced that the school had, from its internally generated funds (IGF), acquired a brand-new Toyota Hiace minibus to augment the fleet of vehicles to improve transportation of both staff and students, especially during professional practice.
The school is also putting up a lecture hall, a new dining hall and automated library that can be accessible from all over the world.
It is also constructing a market for the school community to make life more comfortable as well as help enhance discipline on campus, all from its IGF.
He also announced that the school, through contributions by alumni, students and teaching and non-teaching staff, was building a wall on its boundaries to ward off encroachers and squatters who had appropriated the school land for development and illegal mining (galamsey) activities.
He called on all alumni to contribute at least their quota of a bag of cement each for the project.
KPCE Alumni Worldwide
As part of the homecoming, the Kibi Presbyterian College of Education Alumni Worldwide was formed, with the election of a 10-member interim executive with a two-year mandate to draft a constitution and set a date for congress to elect officers for the association.
The executive includes Mr Lovelace Koranten, President; Ms Veronica Ablordeppey, Vice President; Ms Dora Kissi, Secretary, and Rev Kenneth Osafo-Amankwa, Vice Secretary.
Others are Ms Grace Amoako, Financial Secretary; Ms Rose Kodimeh, Treasurer, and Mr Innocent Doe Sallah, Organising Secretary.
The rest are Mr Peter Sarpong, USA/North America Coordinator, and Ms Gloria Annobea, UK/Europe Coordinator.
Swearing the interim executive into office, the acting Vice Principal of KPCE, Rev. Som Koranteng, charged them to exhibit humility and hard work as they began their mandate.
The interim President, Mr Koranteng, on behalf of the executive, thanked members for the trust reposed in them.
