COVID—19: Kakum National Park closes down
A statement signed by the Executive Director of the GHCT, Isadore Armah, said the closure was in view of the increase and rapid spread of the COVID-19 and the directives of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to ensure the safety of Ghanaians.

The closure is also in line with the recommendations from the Central Regional Health Directorate in Cape Coast.
The statement said the park served a number of tourists annually with a large segment of them being foreign nationals and it was, therefore, necessary to take precautionary measures to protect the staff, tourists and communities surrounding the park.
It also indicated that the decision would be reviewed in 30 days.
Hit to tourism
The closure of the Kakum National Park is expected to impact the tourism industry in a big way.
The park attracts an estimated 100,000 visitors on an annual basis and revenue generation is certainly to be affected.
The Ghana Tourism Authority has already indicated that the Ghanaian tourism industry is expected to lose a revenue of about GH¢ 400,000 due to the novel COVID-19 outbreak which has seen countries shutting their borders.
Ghana currently has 16 recorded cases of the novel coronavirus.
