Prestea Huni-Valley MP inaugurates classroom block

The Deputy Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Mrs Barbara Oteng-Gyasi, has inaugurated a two-unit kindergarten block with ancillary facilities at Petepom, near Bogoso, in the Western Region.

The facility was financed from the District Assemblies Common Fund, with support from the deputy minister who is also the Member of Parliament (MP) for the Prestea Huni-Valley Constituency.

The project comprises a dining hall, staff common room, headmaster’s office and a mechanised borehole.

Other facilities are a washroom, desks, teaching and learning materials, marker boards, etc.

Inauguration

At the inauguration, Mrs Oteng-Gyasi said the classroom block was built to enable the children in the area to have access to kindergarten education, which is key at that level.

“The Bible entreats us to teach children the way they should go so that when they grow they would not depart from it.

So it is important for every child to socialise in an environment that is conducive for learning at that early age to instill a love for education,” she stated.

Mrs Oteng-Gyasi added: “As an MP, I will continue to support the Prestea Huni-Valley Municipal Assembly in children’s education by assisting to build more KG classroom blocks wherever required in the constituency.

This facility will benefit from the school feeding programme right away to ensure that the children remain in school to study”.

Double track

Commenting on the double track senior high school system introduced by the government, she pointed out that the system was an interim measure to facilitate access to secondary education for all qualified Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) candidates and appealed to the people to cooperate with the government.

She expressed gratitude to the Divisional Chief of Petepom, Nana Kwaku Appiah, for his unflinching support for the progress of the municipality.

The Municipal Chief Executive of Prestea Huni-Valley Municipal Assembly, Mr Mozart K. Owuh, said three other communities, Dwaben, Yareyeya and Bompieso, would also get similar facilities in order to bring KG education to the doorstep of children in those communities.

Those, he said, would also be funded by the municipal assembly and Mrs Oteng-Gyasi.

Gratitude

For her part, the Municipal Director of Education for Prestea Huni-Valley, Mrs Vida Kwofie, said she was grateful to the financiers of the classroom block and added: “With these facilities, I don’t see how a child won’t be happy in school”.

She also took the opportunity to express her gratitude to Mrs Oteng-Gyasi for the motorbikes she donated to all circuit supervisors of the Ghana Education Service (GES) and the Prestea Huni-Valley Municipal Assembly to enhance their work.
