While pledging its support to the ministry to address challenges arising out of the fire outbreak, it urged it to fully implement the findings and recommendations irrespective of the consequences.

It has also expressed its readiness to provide assistance to the team established by the ministry to investigate the unfortunate incident.

Addressing a news conference in Accra yesterday, the Chief Executive Officer of the chamber, Mr Anthony Ameka, said the chamber would review the list of pharmaceutical products burnt and donate the products that it was able to import and also manufacture locally.

Warehousing

Also, he said, the chamber would provide warehouse space for the ministry to store its drugs.

"We know that 3,300 square metres of space has been burnt down. We will discuss with the Ministry of Health and see how our members can provide temporary space within our warehouses as the ministry tries to seek permanent solutions.

“We in the private sector have acquired technical know-how in good manufacturing practices which includes quality assurance measures in proper warehousing and supply chain management. We are willing and ready to share same and fully partner the ministry to prevent future fire incidents," he added.

Mr Ameka said as a major stakeholder in the pharmaceutical industry in the country, the chamber was willing to engage the government and all stakeholders to find short-term solutions to address the problems arising out of the fire outbreak and help make medicines available to the public.

Mr Ameka urged regulatory bodies to ensure that organisations did not take advantage of the unfortunate situation to import fake drugs into the country.
