This year’s annual meeting will be held at Lubumbashi in the Katanga Province in the DRC.

The forum is under the chairmanship of the King of the Bayekers in the Katanga Province, Mwami Munongo Godefroide.

Togbui Fiti is expected to attend the meeting with some kings, women and children activists and executives from Kenya, Uganda, South Africa, Cameroun, Nigeria, Ethiopia, Tanzania, Morocco, Tunisia and Egypt to discuss pressing issues that affect the growth of women and children on the continent.

The Daxo of the Aflao Traditional State of Ghana-Togo-Benin is also billed to attend the 17th anniversary of King Godefroide’s enstoolment as king of the Bayekers.

He is expected to spend one week in the DRC.

Before his departure, Togbui Fiti paid a courtesy call on the Editor of the Daily Graphic, Mr Ransford Tetteh, at his office in Accra.
The traditional leader indicated that the annual meeting would focus on key roles chiefs needed to play in order to protect the rights of women and children in society.

Deepening bilateral relations

According to Togbui Fiti, his visit would go a long way to deepen bilateral relations between Ghana and the DRC.
In November last year, King Godefroide visited Togbui Fiti to sign a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on behalf of the peoples of Aflao in the Volta Region and Bayekers in the DRC.

The MoU, among other things, is to give the people of Aflao and Ghanaians in general the opportunity to explore the rich limestone in Lubudi in the DRC.

It also gives natives of Bayekers the opportunity to explore maize, cassava and vegetable products which are in abundance in the Aflao Traditional Area.

Visit to facilitate MoU

In an interview, Togbui Fiti said his visit would also facilitate the agreement between the two towns, stressing that the Mayor of the province, through the king, had extended invitation to prospective businessmen and women from Ghana to set up cement businesses in the DRC.

“Plans are far advanced for the Brassimba Brewery Company in the DRC to establish a brewery in the Aflao Traditional Area by using local products such as maize and cassava as their raw materials,” he stated.

He noted that the MoU, to a large extent, would ensure economic and cultural benefits for the two towns and countries.

Exchange of arts and culture

“During King Godefroide’s visit to Ghana, he expressed delight in the independence of the chieftaincy institution from political governance in Ghana and expressed the interest to adopt the system in order to deepen the institution in the DRC,” Togbui Fiti said.

He emphasised that Congo (DR) had a rich music and arts industry which he believed when Ghana tapped into would enhance its music industry.

“My visit will also ensure the exchange of French teachers between Ghana and the DRC, since the latter has a good background in French,” he concluded.

Mr Tetteh wished Togbui Fiti well during his visit to DRC and expressed the hope that the collaboration between Aflao and Lubumbashi would yield positive results.
