He also spoke of London’s reputation for diversity and equality, and the capital’s commitment to be a welcoming place for all people – regardless of background, race, religion, sexuality or gender.

“I was very pleased to be able to welcome President Akufo-Addo and Mayor Sowah to City Hall," said Khan. "We enjoyed some productive discussions that I hope will lead to strengthened links between our communities in the future.

“London has always been a cosmopolitan and forward-looking city of great opportunities. We welcome people of different nationalities, faiths and backgrounds, including more than 61,000 Londoners of Ghanaian origin, and we remain open to people, talent and partnerships.”

The President of Ghana and the Mayor of Accra are in London to attend the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting, which takes place in the capital this week.

Accra and London already work together through international networks like C40 and 100 Resilient Cities.
