The second anniversary of the GAEC Ladies was celebrated on the theme: “Women and leadership” at the auditorium of the GAEC last Tuesday.

In her presentation on the theme, Prof. Obodai urged the ladies to identify the weaknesses of the association and address them to be able to achieve the desired target and goal of the association.

“Women are naturally problem solvers and go-getters. We all have a leadership role to play in the success of the association; therefore, it is important to work together as that is what successful leaders do,” she said.

She added that in order to achieve the aims and goals, women must step out of the “imposter syndrome” of not believing in their own works even when an achievement had been chalked up as such an attitude brought down the confidence level of an individual.

Leadership

The President of the association, Prof. Mary Boadu, also urged the leadership of the association to be strong and develop their potential and be prepared to help one another to also grow in life.

“Women are now improving on leadership positions and it is important to encourage ourselves, because it is our world and we have to take charge and climb the success ladder together.

“Women are gradually making their leadership presence felt at national, regional and global levels and reaching new milestones across a wide spectrum of human activities in modern times,” she said.

Prof. Boadu said the world had witnessed the advent of women leaders such as the current Vice-President of the US, Kamala Harris; the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen; the Director-General of the World Trade Organisation, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, and the President of the European Central Bank and former Managing Director of the IMF, Christine Lagarde.

“These are phenomenal women and leaders who have achieved great heights,” she added.

Mentorship

The Director-General of GAEC, Prof. B.J.B Nyarko, also encouraged the ladies to take up mentorship roles in order to impact positively on the youth.

“Do not be tired of doing one thing over and over again until success has been achieved, therefore, be role models to the youth out there and have mentors yourselves. No one is above the level of having a mentor,” he stated.
