Great Walk set for Dansoman, FNB Accra Marathon to be launched

Hundreds of fitness enthusiasts and members of keep fit clubs in the Greater Accra Region will descend on Dansoman tomorrow to participate in the 2023 Great Walk, an annual 10-kilometre event which organised by the Dansoman Keep Fit Club since 1993 to celebrate International Diabetes Day.

Over the years, the Great Walk has evolved into a mass event not limited to people with diabetes but also used to promote a healthy lifestyle among the public, particularly members of keep fit clubs and other key stakeholders like the National Diabetes Centre located at Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital.

According to the Chairman of the Dansoman Keep Fit Club, Benjamin Ahulu, this year's event holds greater significance as it has been aligned to the launch of the 2023 First National Bank Accra Marathon which bounces back on Saturday, November 11 after a six-year break.

Turnout

Among participants expected at the Great Walk are officials of First National Bank, staff of Graphic Communications Group Ltd., Multimedia Group, Ghana Athletics, Ghana Educarion Service, Ghana Police Service, Ablekuma West Assembly, other corporate organisations, residents of Dansoman and adjoining communities.

The 10km walk commences from Dansoman Keep Fit Club grounds along the Russia Road, Zongo Junction, Mamprobi Salvation, Banana Inn, Dansoman  Exhibition Roundabout, Dansoman High Street and back to the starting point for a series of health and fun activities such as aerobics session and education on breast cancer and free breast screening as part of the Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

Later the launch of the First National Bank Accra Marathon, organised by the Dansoman Keep Fit Club, will take centre stage followed by a trade fair for partner sponsors and other corporate bodies.

While the Great Walk's origins lie in raising awareness about diabetes, it has evolved into a spectacular mass gathering that promotes well-being across the general public.
