Niger's Issoufou Sani wins West Africa Zonal Triathlon Championship

He was followed in second position by Ghana's Foster Doevi of Ghana in a time of 1:14.36 hours with compatriot Ebenezer Osabutey in third position in 1:16.45 hours.

In the ladies competition, Anta Ndiaye of Senegal claimed the only prize at stake when she clocked a time of 1:27.21 hours.

The female youth event saw Raynatou Hamadou Morou of Niger emerging champion with Salamatu Ndiaye Gueye of Senegal and Saratou Ibrahim of Niger taking the second and third positions, respectively.

 

Senegalese Cherif Malainy Diop emerged champion of the Juniors division in a time of 1 hour, 18 minutes and 26 seconds ahead of Nigerien Harouna Hinfi (1:18.35 hours) while Mohammed Hama finished in the third position in 1:23.18 hours.

About 50 triathletes from Ghana, Senegal, and Niger took part in swimming, cycling, and running at the University of Ghana campus at Legon.

It served as 'Ambassadorial farewell' for the Australian High Commissioner, Mr Andrew Barnes, who has completed his duty tour of Ghana.

Mr Bawah Fuseini, president of the Ghana Triathlon Federation eulogised Mr Barnes for being a good supporter of the sport and deserving of a competition held in his honour.
