Police announce road blocks ahead of 'Judgement day'

The Motor Traffic and Transport Unit (MTTU) of the Ghana Police Service has announced a traffic management strategy on the day of declaration of the election petition on Thursday, August 29, 2013.

A press statement signed by the Director General of the MTTU, ACP Angwubutoge Awuni said the road blocks and traffic diversions have been put in place to ensure peace and security on all routes leading to the Supreme Court premises.

In connection with the final declaration of verdict on election 2012 supreme court petition hearing, the following traffic management strategies have been put in place to ensure peace and security on all routes leading to the supreme court premises.

The following roads would be sealed to the general motoring public;

1.    John Evans Atta Mills High Street, between Cocoa Affairs Court Junction and the Barclays Bank Headquarters,

2.    The Thorpe Road, at the Bank of Ghana (BOG) entrance.

TRAFFIC DIVERSION

1.    Traffic from the Independence Square would be diverted onto both the Liberia and Secretariat roads.

2.    Traffic emanating from James Town would be diverted onto the Bank lane, at Stanchart Headquarters, and subsequently onto the Pagan and Asafoatse Nettey roads.

3.    Traffic from Kimbu and the Barnes roads will be diverted onto the Dodoo street in front of Salormey Okoh National Hockey stadium and Independence Avenue towards Rawlings Park.

Parking of vehicles on the following roads within the Central Business District (CBD) will not be tolerated.

a.    Independence avenue
b.    Pagan road
c.    Derby avenue
d.    Barnes road
e.    Kimbu road
f.    Cowlane, around Rawlings park and
g.    Kojo Thompson Road

Towing vehicles will be on standby to tow vehicles parked on the roads listed above. Traffic Officers will be on hand to give assistance to motorist on alternative diverted routes.

Motorists are advised to cooperate with the police to ensure an incident free event.
