Rotary Club of Kumasi East elects new executive

The newly elected President of the Rotary Club of Kumasi East, Mr. Francis Tettey-Ahwah, has reaffirmed the position of Rotarians in the country and the rest of the world to continue supporting the marginalised and the vulnerable in the world.

He said Rotary International was in the business of providing potable water, constructing school buildings and health facilities as well as supporting the fight against diseases such as poliomyelitis, malaria and cervical cancer, all geared towards complementing the efforts of governments and improving the standards of living of people around the world.

Mr. Tettey-Ahwah was speaking at a handover ceremony of the old executive of the Rotary Club of Kumasi East to the newly elected executive in Kumasi.

New executive

At the ceremony, the former President of the club, Mr. Kwadwo Dei-Agyemang, passed the mantle of responsibility and leadership of the Rotary Club of Kumasi East to the new President, Mr Francis Tettey-Ahwah, and the incoming executive members who will run affairs for the 2019/2020 Rotary year.

The members of the new executive are Mrs. Charity Adjei-Danquah, Secretary; Mr. George Fuseni, Treasurer; Mr. Prince Ofori Attah-Nyarko, Sergeant at Arms, and Mr. Richard Antwi, Club Administrator.

The others are Nana Kofi Ayesu-Boahene, Public Image; Mr. Anthony Osei-Poku, Club Trainer; Mr. Rudolph Kantum Adageba, Membership Director; Mrs. Sharon Afriyie Ofori-Kuragu, Foundation; Mr. Kennedy Frimpong, Project Officer, and Mr. Kwame Kyeremateng Mensah-Aborampah, New Generation.

Track record

Mr Tettey-Ahwah explained that the Rotary Club of Kumasi East was currently undertaking massive public education on cervical cancer in the Ashanti Region.

He said the exercise, which was aimed at reducing fatalities and challenges related to cervical cancer, had targeted to vaccinate girls in 10 basic and senior high schools in the region.

He said the club was making efforts to acquire a mobile van from Rotary International for social mobilisation and health screening work on cervical cancer.

The president discredited the erroneous impression that Rotarians were occultists or belonged to a secret society.

He explained that the group rather sought to promote human welfare and undertook its own fundraising activities in support of the marginalised and the vulnerable in societies across the country and the rest of the world.

Collaboration

The outgoing President of Rotary Club of Kumasi East, Mr Kwadwo Dei-Agyemang, pledged the unflinching support of the old executive to the new.

He appealed to all well-meaning Ghanaians and philanthropists to join any rotary club near them and contribute their quota to complement efforts that the government and its development partners were making to improve the standards of living of the people.
