In a short speech, Mrs Oteng-Gyasi encouraged corporate bodies to do more of such donations.

“The aged musicians need help, especially at this time that no entertainment activities are taking place. Some of them can no longer perform or sell CDs and the best we can do is to donate to them. Our outfit will soon roll out an insurance scheme to artistes to pay back at a very low rate,” she said.

MUSIGA grateful

The acting President of MUSIGA, Bessa Simons, said the donation came at the right time and the leadership would make sure they got to the right people.

“MUSIGA has always asked corporate bodies and individuals to support the aged musicians, so this donation will help a lot. MUSIGA reps in all the 16 regions will be contacted and they will get to the aged musicians in their regions and donate to them,” he said.

According to Bessa Simons, his outfit would be glad if more donations came in. “This is the third time we have received a donation since we made it clear that corporate bodies and individuals should come in and help the aged musicians,” he said.

Celebrated musician Naa Amanua Dodoo of Wulomei, a beneficiary of the donation, said she was happy.

“It has not been easy for some of the aged musicians and I believe this donation will put smiles on the faces of the aged musicians. However,

I pray it does not end here,” she said.

Present at the donation were musicians Diana Hopeson, Pat Thomas, Dela Hayes, Mary Ghansah, the Interim Chairman of the Creative Arts Council, Mark Okraku Mantey, and Black Star International Film Festival Founder Juliet Asante.
