2022 FIFA World Cup play-off: Ademola Lookman handed maiden Nigeria call-up ahead of Ghana clash

Super Eagles caretaker coach, Augustine Eguavoen has handed Leicester City forward Ademola Lookman a maiden Nigeria call-up for the team’s upcoming 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifying play-off against Ghana later this month.

Coach Eguavoen has decided to include Lookman -- who recently completed his nationality switch to Nigeria – to a star-studded side which includes midfielder Wifred Ndidi, Moses Simon and Kelechi Iheanacho for the March 25 encounter in Cape Coast before returning to Abuja for the return leg on March 29.

The stand-in coach of the Super Eagles also invited attackers Victor Osimhen, Odion Ighalo and Samuel Chukwueze ahead of the two-legged fixture.

Super Eagles skipper Ahmed Musa and Deputy William Ekong were also named in the provisional list of 32 players by the trainer

Goalkeepers Maduka Okoye and Daniel Akpeyi, defenders Kenneth Omeruo, Oluwasemilogo Ajayi and Abdullahi Shehu, midfielders Oghenekaro Etebo and Joseph Ayodele were all included in the squad.

Akinkunmi Amoo, Calvin Bassey and Emmanuel Dennis have returned to the three-time African champions squad with Taiwo Awoniyi, Peter Olayinka, Chidozie Awaziem and Ogenyi Onazi were named in a seven-man standby list.

The team is expected to open their camp in Abuja on March 21 with a 24-man final list due to be announced at a later time for the clash with the Black Stars.
