Ga South Assembly commends former MCE

The Ga South Municipal Assembly has commended the immediate past Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for the municipality, Mr Jerry Akwei Thompson, for taking a bold initiative to put up a modern office complex to accommodate all departments and other decentralised agencies.

Until the construction of the modern office complex, the assembly, which was carved out of the Ga West District Assembly, was housed in rented premises.

Maiden session

The current MCE for Ga South, Mr Joseph Nyarni Stephen who made the commendation during the maiden session of the assembly for this year, said the absence of an office accommodation made it difficult for officers to work effectively and that led to low productivity.

He said currently, the ground floor of the office complex had been completed for workers to move in, saying: “ A good working environment made employees feel good, work hard and thereby increased productivity.’’

The Ga South MCE charged the finance and administration sub-committee of the assembly to come out with innovative strategies that would improve the revenue base of the assembly.

He stressed that the assembly would critically look at some contracts and review them where necessary to ensure that these was value for money.

Business Advisory centres

Mr Stephen said the municipal assembly in 2016 won and acquired the only Business Advisory Resource Centre for the Greater Accra Region and work on them is expected to be completed by the end of September 2017.

He said when completed, the resource centres would serve as training centres for micro and small enterprises in the Greater Accra Region to showcase samples of their products.
