ROFAC, the Danish-Ghanaian Humanitarian NGO, working in collaboration with a Teshie indigene, Emmanuel Nii Ashia Anyankor, donated the items which included five modern adjustable beds, 18 mattresses, 30 pairs of crutches, 10,000 syringes and 6,000 disposable gloves.

Reach out for a child

Presenting the items, Mr Anyankor explained that it was the mission of ROFAC, which is an acronym for Reach Out For A Child, to raise funds to improve the lives of underprivileged children.

He said the NGO did so by providing the necessary supplies that ensured sustainable community development.

Mr Anyankor stated that ROFAC had, since its inception in 2008, focused on the poor in Accra and its rural communities because “there are many vulnerable people living on the fringes and under the shadow of the nation’s capital.”

Upgrade to a polyclinic

Receiving the items on behalf of the clinic, the Medical Assistant , Ms Patricia Odoi, spoke of plans to upgrade the clinic which currently handles 50 outpatient cases daily, to a polyclinic.

She thanked the donors and assured residents of Teshie that the items  would be put to their intended use.

The chairman for the occasion, Nii Ashong Akpor Adjei II, Shikitele and Acting Teshie Mantse, called on all who had the means at Teshie to come together to uplift the socio-economic standards in the community.

He lamented that Teshie, which had rapidly expanded and hosts a number of leading manufacturing companies in Ghana, had a high rate of unemployed youth and poverty.

Nii Akpor Adjei advised the youth not to use their lack of opportunities to disturb the peace at Teshie or allow themselves to be influenced by self-seekers to indulge in lawlessness.

He commended Mr Anyankor’s efforts to bring development to Teshie and called on the youth, particularly, to give him their support.

Present at the ceremony were members of the Teshie Traditional Council ,as well as various youth clubs in the community.

A Deputy Director of Nursing Services at the Ledzokuku-Krowor Municipal Health Directorate, Mrs Georgina Amankwah, gave the assurance that the donation would be put to good use.

Educational assistance

In a related development, Mr Anyankor has on behalf of ROFAC, donated educational aid worth GH¢ 17,000 to Cyhdan International School at Teshie Tsui Bleo.

The donation comprised tables and chairs to seat 52 pupils and assorted books.

The Headmaster of the school, Samuel Adjei, who received the items, thanked ROFAC and noted that the donation would motivate the pupils to improve on their performance.

Ms Mary Narkie Marbell, a field officer of ROFAC, advised the pupils to study hard to give meaning to the NGO’s gesture.
