Datano community completes school project

A four-unit classroom block with a headteacher’s office and staff common room for the Datano D/A Primary School at Datano in the Amansie South District of the Ashanti Region has been inaugurated.

The school was a community-initiated project but was abandoned due to lack of funds.

When a new district assembly was created in the area last year, the administration decided to take up the project and complete it.

At the inauguration of the project last Tuesday, the Amansie South District Chief Executive (DCE), Mr William Bediako Asante, expressed delight about the completion of the project.

He said on assumption of office as the first DCE for the area, he realised that the community did not have the funds to complete the project.

Consequently, funds were secured from the assembly’s internally generated funds (IGF) to complete it.

Education is key

Mr Asante said education held the key to the development of the district for which reason, a lot was being done by the assembly and the government to drive the sector forward.

“The educational sector has become a major priority in the quest to bring development to the people of Amansie South,” he said.

The DCE assured the people that he would continue to give his support towards education for the people of Amansie South.

Improvement

The District Director of Education, Mr Adu Darko, said the education authority was determined to see an improvement in the performance of pupils and the district.

He urged parents to take keen interest in the education of their children by ensuring that they gave them time to study at home and also prevent them from

engaging in acts that would not help their educational development.

He commended the DCE for his tremendous interest in education.

The assembly member for Datano, Mr Samuel Amponsah, said the fact that the community initiated the project was a testament to the commitment of the people in building the future of the children through education.
