Jamaica’s Asafa Powell and Ghanaian wife on holidays in Ghana
Many years after leaving the country, Alyshia Akua Miller, model and the Ghanaian wife of former 100m World Record holder, Asafa Powell has always made known to her followers on social media her intentions to visit “home”.

Well, it seemed the time was right last Monday, February 27 when in the company of her husband, who holds the record of the fourth fastest man in the world, arrived at the Kotoka International Airport to a host of the latter’s fan who wanted to see him in person.
In a report by Carribean National Weekly, the couple were also welcomed by the Ghanaian media, headed by President of Ghana Olympic Committee(GOC), Ben Nunoo Mensah for interviews to know what the now-retired sprinter have in store for the athletic community in Ghana.
Powell’s wife Alyshia was born and raised in Ghana, and from Bremang Essikuma in Central Region where her mother hails.
She was excited to share her homeland, culture, and family with Powell on this trip as well. This trip will allow Powell to connect with Ghana on both a professional and personal basis.
Powell and wife kicked off Day 2 in Ghana with a visit to Ghana’s Youth & Sports Minister, Mustapha Ussif, who hosted him Tuesday afternoon in his office. The couple also got to visit Black Star Square, as well as the Ghanaian House of Parliament, and Powell met Ghanaian football player Asamoah Gyan.
“The welcome I received upon landing yesterday was truly amazing. The warmth, the music, the dancing, and the hospitality was beyond fantastic… I feel like I am in my home away from home,” he is reported to have said.

On Wednesday, March 1, the couple visited Christian Atsu’s residence to sign the book of condolence for the Ghanaian footballer who perished a few weeks ago in the Turkey earthquake.
Yesterday, March 2, Powell and his wife went to Cape Coast to visit the school she attended as a child, as well as to link up with his ancestral roots.
According to reports, the Powells will be in Ghana until Tuesday, March 7 where he will meet and speak to athletes, pay a courtesy call on H.E. the President of the Republic at the Jubilee House, and also engage the Ministry of Youth and Sports, the Ghana Olympic Committee, the LOC (Local Organizing Committee) of the African Games Accra 2023, as well as the Ghana Athletics Association on how best Ghana sports can benefit from his huge image on the international sports arena.
Asafa engaged Alyshia, who is an international model and former athlete in 2018 and they both kept their relationship away from the public until the model broke the news on social media.
The two later got married in a private ceremony on February 16, 2019 in Montego Bay, St James in the presence of close friends and family members.
Months after their wedding, the couple welcomed their baby boy Amieke and were later blessed with a daughter, Avani in 2021.
