Bofoakwa Tano FC faces ban from Sunyani Coronation Park following assault of Nsoatreman FC coach

The Executive Council of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) has imposed a temporary ban on Bofoakwa Tano FC from utilizing the Sunyani Coronation Park as its home venue, effective immediately.

This decision comes in the aftermath of regrettable incidents that unfolded after the Matchday 11 encounter between Bofoakwa Tano FC and Nsoatreman FC on November 19, 2023.

The Executive Council's directive aligns with Article 14(2) of the GFA Premier League Regulations, which empowers the GFA to close any league center if the safety of clubs, match officials, or spectators cannot be guaranteed. The Competitions Department has been instructed to designate an alternative venue for Bofoakwa Tano FC's subsequent home matches, as per Article 14(3) of the Premier League Regulations.

It's crucial to note that this directive does not prejudice the ongoing case before the Disciplinary Committee, which is tasked with reviewing the matter in adherence to the relevant regulations.

The GFA strongly condemned the conduct exhibited by Bofoakwa Tano FC's supporters and unequivocally denounces the breaches of GFA Safety and Security Regulations and Premier League Regulations during the match. The GFA Prosecutors will examine video evidence and match reports to formulate appropriate charges promptly, with the Disciplinary Committee expected to expedite proceedings on this matter.

Furthermore, the GFA demanded that Bofoakwa Tano FC's immediate collaboration with the Regional Police to apprehend individuals involved in the attack on the away team and the unlawful holding of match officials hostage. This action is imperative and corresponds to the commitment made by the clubs to the Inspector General of Police during engagements with the Ghana Police Service.

The Competitions Department has been instructed to designate venues for Bofoakwa Tano FC's upcoming home matches until the case is resolved, taking into account the distance to be traveled by the away teams. The GFA underscores the importance of all clubs strictly adhering to the Safety & Security Regulations and the GFA Disciplinary Code.

In a stern warning, the GFA emphasized that any form of harassment or attack on players, team officials, match officials, and other involved parties will be dealt with decisively and promptly. This directive serves as a strong caution to all GFA members, particularly clubs, to uphold the integrity and safety of the game.
