NPP condemns assault on Abronye DC

THE Brong Ahafo Regional branch of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has described the attack on its Regional Youth Organiser, Kwame Baffoe, alias Abronye D.C as “barbaric” and called on the police to expedite action on its investigation to bring the perpetrators to book.

“We … assure all party faithful and the entire country that our colleague and fellow patriot is responding to treatment and the issue shall not rest until the perpetrators of this heinous crime are brought to book”.

The party made the call at a press conference addressed by its acting Regional Chairman, Mr Thomas Adu Appiah in Sunyani Monday.

“The party wishes to condemn the act in no uncertain terms and call on the police in the region to expedite action in carrying out the needed arrests and investigations to bring the perpetrators to book”.

Liberal democratic tradition
Addressing the media, Mr Appiah said as a liberal democratic tradition, NPP believed in the plurality of ideas and opinions which could be best achieved through the development and utilization of human mind than through the power of bones, sticks, guns and machetes.

He explained that the party’s initial checks and information proved that Mr Baffoe was on a peaceful mission of meeting constituency executives to outline his plans for the party in respect of the impending regional and national elections when the “barbaric attack got carried on him.”

“It must be emphasized that in a civilized democracy, those who resort to the power of the fist, guns and machetes in making points are not fit for purpose”, he said and called for thorough investigation to ensure that both the attackers and their possible motivators were made to face the full rigours of the law.

That, according to him would help establish and sustain a peaceful political environment for the entire population and unborn generations.

Formal complaint
Mr Appiah called on the regional police command and the Atebubu command to act immediately on the formal complaint laid before them by Mr Baffoe.

“We cannot protect the many law-abiding citizens of the republic if we fail to sanction the few miscreants in our midst”, he said adding that “Crime has no colour and those who indulge in it should be ready at any point in time to answer for their actions.”

Background
On Saturday, January 13, 2017, Mr Baffoe was allegedly beaten up by yet to be identified assailants during a meeting with Atebubu/Amantin constituency executives at Atebubu.

In a brief comment, Mr Baffoe said his assailants beat him with a piece of metal.

“They used metal they dry clothes on to beat me”, he said, adding that “I had already been warned by some executives to stay off Atebubu but I said it was not proper to leave out the area which falls under the region.”
