In an election conducted and supervised by the Electoral Commission (EC) at Sandema in the Upper East Region, Mr Adangabey obtained 32 out of 43 votes, representing 79 per cent of the votes cast.

The confirmation was attended by the Upper East Regional Minister, Alhaji Limuna Mohammed-Muniru and his Deputy,  Mr Daniel Syme; the Member of Council of State for the Upper East Region, Reverend Jacob Ayeebo; regional and constituency executives of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), as well as friends, relatives and well-wishers of the nominee.

In a speech after he had been sworn in by a magistrate of the Bolgatanga District Magistrate’s Court, Madam Vivian Yamusah, Mr Adangabey said his endorsement alone would not result in the change the assembly was looking for but was only a chance for them to collectively make a change in their development effort.

"We need to move forward in progress, but progress is not always a straight or smooth path. There will be setbacks and false starts. There may be those who may not agree with some decisions and policies in this assembly and in such situations, the supreme interest of the district should be taken into consideration.”

He said the assembly had challenges, especially in education, agriculture, health  infrastructure and revenue mobilisation and called on stakeholders to come up with ideas and resources to support the assembly to overcome those challenges.

The Upper East Regional Minister, Alhaji Mohammed-Muniru, commended the assembly members for their unity and indicated that that was a mark of a people who, in spite of their differences, had the development of the district at heart.

He advised the district chief executive to serve and not lord over the people, adding that he should not forget that those who had given him the mandate to become the DCE would be the same people he would return to when he was subsequently renominated in future. He also said that politicians were now being held accountable by the electorate  for their actions, which must be a guiding principle as to how they govern their people.
