Location

At the presentation ceremony in Kumasi, Mr George Fuseini, the President of the club, indicated that the donation to the hospital was aimed at helping manage emergency responses at the facility.

He explained that the strategic location of the hospital was a major factor that informed the choice of the club to donate to the facility since it stood the chance of helping hundreds of people along the Volta Lake and other communities in the Bono East and the Northern regions.

Mr Fuseini said the bus was secured with funding from the Rotary Club of Copenhagen, Denmark at a cost of GH¢150,000.

Visitation

The president recounted how he and another member visited the hospital and noticed the deplorable state of a bus which had been converted into an ambulance for the transportation of people.

He said the absence of such logistics impeded the delivery of quality health care, especially in quite distant places like Yeji.

Importance of ambulance

The president said, “It is very risky without ambulances in faraway communities like yours, and in emergency situations most people might lose their lives.” He gave an assurance that the Rotary Club would continue rendering humanitarian services to people, grow communities and bring relief to them.

The Medical Director of the hospital, Dr Edward Agana, said the ambulance had been delivered at a very convenient time to complement the activities of the new constituency ambulance, especially when the latter had been sent for maintenance.

He indicated that the Matthias Catholic Hospital was a major referral facility in the district which also served clients from the Savannah Region and other adjoining districts around the Volta Lake.
