Methodist Book Depot expands facility
The Methodist Book Depot Limited (MBDL) was established over 100 years ago to serve both the Methodist Church of Ghana, the society and also to serve as the business wing of the church.

Over the years, the unit has been the major source of supply of religious literature, text books among others, to people of all ages and classes across the country.
However, according to the Presiding Bishop of the Methodist Church, Ghana, Most Rev. Prof. Emmanuel K. Asante, the MBDL needed to re-strategise and be innovative to regain its lost grounds in the bookshop industry and withstand the competition from other players.
Extension of facility
At the inauguration of the Methodist Book Depot’s annex, an extension of the MBDL, in Accra, he said business was dynamic and, therefore, despite previous successes of the MBDL over the years, it needed to be innovative to remain in business.
Most Rev. Prof. Asante advised that the MBDL needed to operationalise business opportunities to meet the increasing demands of the market to enable it to explore more opportunities globally.
“For instance, the Book Depot could explore areas such as publishing and printing of quality and branded world-class literature, be that in print, e-book or other prospects that the digitised world affords, an enterprise that we can all be proud of,” he added.
Board chair’s remark
In her welcome address, the chairperson of the MBDL board, Mrs Naomi Elizabeth Okine, said the inauguration of the facility signified another milestone in the life of the depot.
She noted that the new development was in furtherance of the mission of the church and in remembrance of the pioneers who laboured to keep the depot afloat.
