He said that would ensure that they handle children entrusted in their care properly.

Dr Jinapor, who was speaking to the Junior Graphic in an interview on the sidelines of a conference organised by the Early Childhood Development Centre Association-Ghana (ECDCAG), said the training of teachers should be taken very seriously since they were the ones children look up to in their early stages of life.

The conference, which was in collaboration with the Ghana Education Service (GES), was attended by pupils, teachers, proprietors, and heads of various educational institutions across the country.

Speaking on the theme: ‘Early Childhood Education, a stepping stone for national development,’ Dr Jinapor said when teachers were trained well, they would show best practices and innovation in their work.

He stated that the most critical stage of the child’s development happened between ages zero and six which formed the early childhood stage.

Dr Jinapor explained that the early child’s world view was centred on his or her early childhood educator.

‘’For the early child, the concept of schooling revolves around his teacher, what his teacher says is final and cannot be disputed,’’ he said.

According to him, early childhood education was the foundation for national development and it was very important that teachers put in their best in its discharge.

The National President of the Early Childhood Development Centre Association-Ghana, Alhaji Issa Burkari, urged teachers to attend more workshops and seminars to learn new methodologies to improve on their teaching skills.
