As part of the education, the girls would be made aware of gender-based violence with a particular focus on sexual abuses.

The Accra Divisional Commander of the Salvation Army Church, Major Christiana Oduruwaa, who inaugurated the club encouraged members to believe in themselves and be content with whatever they have.

The objective of the club is to educate members on adolescent sexual reproductive health, healthy relationships and promote leadership skills to help fight against gender-based violence in schools and communities.

Major Oduruwaa   urged the club members to be positive examples to their peers and avoid immoral acts that could jeopardise their education and future aspirations.

A Patron of the club, Ms Dzifa Adagbe, said members of the club in the school would participate in a number of activities to improve on their retention levels, build their confidence and enhance academic performance.

Ms Adagbe, who is also a teacher at the Tema Salvation Army School, said the members would be mentored to study hard, be assertive in order to boost their self-esteem and communicate more effectively.

The Ghana Education Service Circuit Supervisor in charge of Tema Community Two, Mr Ebenezer Essuman, advised parents not to use poverty as an excuse to make their children engage in commercial activities.

He also encouraged parents to take an interest in the education of their children, especially the girls, in order to get the best out of them.

A five-member executive of the club was later inaugurated and it was made up of Alberta Oduro,  President, Judith Boadu, Vice President; Jenny Pomaa, Secretary; Mariamatu Mohammed, Organising Secretary, and Francisca Apenyowo, Assistant Organising Secretary.
