• Police arrest Wontumi TV/Radio presenter for alleged false news about elections  

    The Ghana Police Service has arrested Kumasi-based radio and television presenter, Oheneba Nana Asiedu, for allegedly publishing false news, an offence under Section 208 of the Criminal Offences Act, 1960 (Act 29).

    The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has issued an urgent notice to customers using Nuri Prepaid Meters, advising them to top up their meter credit sufficiently to last at least one month. 

  • Ogyeahoho Yaw Gyebi II re-elected president of National House of chiefs

    Ogyeahoho Yaw Gyebi II, the Paramount Chief of Sefwi Anhwiaso has been re-elected as President of the National House of Chiefs. He polled 42 votes to defeat the Dormaahene, Osagyefo Oseadeeyo Agyemang Badu II, who polled 30 votes.

    The First Lady, Rebecca Akufo-Addo has called for the retention of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in government for the continuity of the numerous development projects and good works.

    She said President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo had done beyond what he promised while campaigning to be the President in 2016, hence the need to retain the party in power.

    Oheneba Nana Asiedu, a Kumasi-based radio and television presenter has been invited by the police in relation to publication of false news.

    Oheneba Nana Asiedu, in a radio and television programme had said that, the upcoming presidential and parliamentary elections will be held on two different dates, that is December 7 and December 8.

  • Accountants urged to be apolitical 

    The Director–General of the Internal Audit Agency, Dr Eric Oduro Osae, has urged accountants to be apolitical in their professional dealings to protect the sanctity and integrity of the accountancy profession.

    “As we go into the elections, accountants are not only there to prepare financial statements, but we have to be apolitical in our professional practice and stay professional always,” he said.

  • Medical and Dental Council inducts 498 medical doctors, dental practitioners

    The Medical and Dental Council (MDC) has inducted 498 newly qualified medical doctors and dental practitioners into its profession.

    The inductees consist of graduates from the University of Ghana, the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), the University of Cape Coast (UCC), the University of Development Studies (UDS), the University of Health and Allied Sciences (UHAS), and private medical schools – Family Health Medical School and the Accra College of Medicine.

  • ECOWAS deploys observers for Dec. 7 election

    The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) has deployed over 100 observers to Ghana for the 2024 general election scheduled for December 7, the Head of the Electoral Assistance Division of ECOWAS, Serigne Mamadou Ka, has said.

    He said an initial team of 16 long-term observers arrived on Wednesday, November 20, 2024, while a group of 90 short-term observers would arriive on December 2 or 3.

  • Excluded by language, distance: Fulbe nomads struggle for inclusive healthcare 

    A Wudu Issahaka, a 50-year-old herdsman at Kojokura, a nomadic settlement in the West Gonja Municipality in the Savannah Region, was rushed to a health facility one hot afternoon last year, feeling feverish and barely able to stand.

    He had been battling illness for days and his condition worsened until his family rushed him for urgent medical care.

    But when they arrived at the facility, a harsh reality awaited them. He could not access free healthcare because he had no National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) card.

    The Majority Leader in Parliament, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, has requested the Speaker of Parliament to reconvene the House to address outstanding business as a result of the indefinite adjournment of Parliament.

  • Tema-Mpakadan 97.7 kilometer standard guage railway line inaugurated

    The 97.7 kilometer Tema-Mpakadan standard guage railway line and two Diesel Multiple Unit (DMU) trains were on Friday inaugurated by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo. 

    The two DMUs, with a total capacity of 255 passengers would facilitate the movement of people and goods along the Eastern corridor of Ghana.

  • MP denies demolishing GBC Staff Bungalows, pledges probe into land allocations  

    The Member of Parliament for Bortianor Ngleshie Amanfro, Sylvester Tetteh, has denied allegations of illegally demolishing a staff bungalow belonging to the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC) at Weija to pave way for the construction of a school project.

    The MP who also serves as a Deputy Minister of Information has planned to put up a school in the area and had engaged the GBC to use a part of the land for the project.

    However, GBC has accused him of demolishing a staff bungalow at an area which is not part of where has been allocated to the MP for the school project.
