Ghana Oil and Gas Awards at 10 -Industry players urged to form stronger ties

Deputy Minister of Energy, Andrew Egyapa Mercer, has urged players in the oil and gas industry to form stronger ties and collaborations, as the country transitions into a low carbon economy.

He said due to climate change and its implications, the world was putting in place measures and strategies to transition from fossil fuels to cleaner energy.

He noted that this notwithstanding, the realities were that Ghana, had to explore its natural resources in a context to serve the country’s development and energy security needs.

“It is therefore important that we work together to ensure that this is achieved. Our transition to a low carbon economy must necessarily take place as we also tap into our oil and gas resources.

“We need strategies to find a balance between exploitation of the oil and gas resources and the transition agenda,” he said at the 10th edition of the Ghana Oil and Gas Awards.

He said the government was putting in places measures to make natural gas a transition fuel.

“Oil and gas will continue to feature prominently in Ghana’s energy discourse for some years to come,” he added.

Mr Mercer commended Xodus Communication for organizing the awards, noting that awards like this promote the industry and provides the platform for celebration of successes and milestones.

He said it also creates the opportunity to strategise for progress and affords all industry players to forge stronger ties and alliances to advance the objectives of the industry.
