We were fortunate to get a draw

Medeama SC Coach, Evans Adotey, has admitted his side must count themselves lucky for escaping with a draw during their CAF Champions League game against Yanga last Friday.

The Ghanaian representatives in this year’s CAF’s flagship club competition were held to a 1-1 draw during their third group game against the Tanzania side at the Baba Yara Stadium.

Speaking after the game, the coach maintained that it was a tough game but was confident they would secure victory in the reverse fixture.

“Yeah, it was a tough game, but I wasn’t surprised about their physicality because we drew against a stronger opponent. They were finalists in the last CAF Confederation Cup,” he said.

Coach Adotey also expressed his disappointment in the number of chances his boys missed and admitted that they didn’t play well like their game against CR Belouizdad.
“We didn’t play well like our game against Belouizdad,” he said.

Coach Adotey also blamed his substitution for adding very little to the game when he expected them to make a very good impact and allow the Tanzanians to dominate at the latter stages of the game.

According to him, Medeama lost the physical battle along the line as it became obvious his team struggled to match that of their opponents.

“The substitution also didn’t bring impact; apart from that getting to the latter part of the game, we saw the physical ability of my team coming down. That was why you saw the opponents taking over,” he said.

He emphasised that they count themselves lucky to have split points with the Tanzanians but were confident they could pull a surprise by winning the return leg when they prepared adequately.

“We were fortunate to end the game 1-1, I must say, so we take it so, it’s a matter of just preparing ahead of the next game,” he said.

Medeama are currently on four points in Group D after three matches but are behind Belouizdad who are second on the log with the same points but on superior goal difference.
